Serfs, peasants, knights, monarchs, songs and brightly coloured scenery. The Hollywood Medieval movie was a staple of my young TV watching life. Danny Kaye, Bing Crosby, Burt Lancaster, Basil Rathbone, Virginia Mayo, Angela Landsbury and a myriad of character actors made these movies a joy to watch and hold a warm memory for me. Films like The Flame and the Arrow, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court and The Court Jester were the names of these movies that I spent many an afternoon watching, there were also the pirates, sailors swarthy maidens and cut throats of The Crimson Pirate and The Pirate among others
There was always injustice and good against evil with of course romance. Bright vibrant movies, some with great songs, stirring music, fighting, sword play, humour and a story to tell. Great fun!
