My 3rd selection for my Glam video collection I've started may surprise you. Ciara. Although she has yet to reach megastar status, the girl has style for miles. Her glam squad is the best in the business as far as I'm concerned and her videos can be best described by my two favorite adjectives...sexy and glamorous. She always has cutting edge style (peep the zebra bodysuit-SICK). Her face is one of my top 5 dream canvases. The makeup, hair, and fashion in this video is CRAZY. I can't believe that with the way this girl can carry off the most dramatic of makeup looks that someone has yet to offer her a spokesmodel contract...(MAC, Urban Decay..are u listening?!). See for yourself...Lights,Camera, Action...Love*Sex*Magic.

The Gaslight Anthem - The Very Last Gang in Town
There’s a great intersection where punk, rock and soul meet – it’s sweaty, beer-soaked, jacked-up and juiced with sing-along choruses and songs that rev up quick and wind down fast. It is rockist and unrepentant (thanks Dan Rubin). There’s no room for solos, and there’s no room for the weak of heart. Beards come and go, t-shirts and jeans are the uniform (leather jacket and jeff cap optional) and fist pumps come by the bushel. There might be a mosh pit, (but in 2009 that’s really just the backwards hat-wearing, roid raged frat jock fatheads) but there will definitely be a positive rage.
The boiler plate for this animal is Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band (circa ’75) and The Rolling Stones (circa ’65), plus a shared love for Eddie Cochran and Otis Redding completes the package. Springsteen picked up the torch from the Stones and his rockabilly forefathers, as well as The Band, Mitch Ryder, CCR and the great soul shouters and screamers from Memphis, Muscle Shoals and Detroit. And once you’re hooked, you find that this rock-punk-soul life has got you in its sway.
Last night at The Trocadero in Philadelphia, The Gaslight Anthem proved them themselves worthy heirs to carry this tradition forward (even while constantly looking back) just like bloodbrothers-in-arms The Hold Steady, Lucero, The Felice Brothers, Philly’s own The Loved Ones, Jesse Malin, The Ike Reilly Assassination and Jersey nutjobs Titus Andronicus. Exploding onstage to “Great Expectations”, two things were immediately clear. One, that mosh pit that materialized in an instant right in front us would lend a little menace and energy to the night as it cowed some of the less hearty in the immediate area. Two, this was going to be an electric, body shakin' great rock and roll show. In 2009, great rock shows seem to be in shorter supply than newspaper sales as djs, laptop artistes, sensitive wallflowers and dinosaur cash grabs dominate the concert landscape.
Focusing mostly on their universally lauded 2008 sparkplug, The ’59 Sound, The Gaslight Anthem relied on their DIY instincts as they connected immediately with the audience, as lead singer Brian Fallon told self-deprecating stories of his experiences as a kid in Philly at Troc punk rock shows with The Dillinger Escape Plan and Saves The Day. He also offered his services as a pool painter. Highlights included a searing “I’da Called You Woody, Joe”, Fallon’s heartfelt tribute to Joe Strummer from TGA’s first album, Sink or Swim, as well as “The 59 Sound” and especially “The Patient Ferris Wheel”, with the Springsteen redux lyrics about escape and desperation and the shouted lyrics (“I’ve never felt so strange, standing in the Jersey rain / Thinking about what an old man said / Maybe I should call me an ambulance”) that are still ringing in my head this morning.

The Gaslight Anthem will not save the world. But they are part of the great rock continuum, bands of brothers that will evoke spirits of Elvis, the Stones and the brothers Ruffin and they will bring you to your knees. Go see them, not because it feels like they might save your soul, but because they are alive, and like the only that band matters, they feel like the very last gang in town.

Just a hint....the printing results were the very best with the pink can of Skintimate shaving cream by the Johnson Co.
If you are interested, there is a tutorial of this technique in this blog. Click here to view it.
We meet once a month at JanniLou Creations Quilt Shop in Philomath, Oregon. They provide us with a big, well lit, working space. Thank you Jan & Lou for your generosity to our group.
After 3 hours of playing with shaving cream and paint, we began to fill up the tables with little journal quilt tops.

After 3 hours of playing with shaving cream and paint, we began to fill up the tables with little journal quilt tops.
Kathy's purple piece is wonderful, especially with the pastel background colors that were leftover from the previous piece that was printed.
Virginia with her purple and pink piece.
These newly created journal quilts will become part of our ongoing art quilt exhibit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.
The Permission 2 Play journal quilts have been invited to exhibit in August 2009 at the Quilts in Gardens Tour, and the Mary's River Quilt Guild Quilt County 2009 Quilt Show throughout Benton County.
We had a fun afternoon........it is always good to give yourself "Permission 2 Play."

Pepperdish.......In Progress
Last week I pulled the pizza box labeled "Pepper Dish Quilt" off the shelf and decided I would finish up this project. You can click on the images to enlarge them:
I rarely work with a pattern anymore, preferring to design my own work, but when it comes to paper piecing you need one.........and Judy's are the best out there.
I pulled the completed top out of the pizza box and saw where Judy had signed my quilt top.........2006.........3 years ago I took that class? Time can get away from you.
As always I like to file away my works "in progress" in NEW pizza boxes. Everything for the entire project can be stored away.......pattern, fabrics, glue sticks, wipees to get the glue off my fingers during the applique process, etc.
The next time I yearn to work on this quilt......I pull the pizza box off the shelf, and everything I need is contained inside, no hunting around for supplies...........and I haven't stolen any of the fabric for another project!
I am working on the applique flowers, leaves and stems. In order to get the correct placement of the applique on the quilt, I use a piece of plastic......lay it over my paper pattern.......trace over the entire applique with a felt marker onto the plastic..........that is the shiny surface you see in the image above.
I take the traced-on plastic and place it in the correct spot on my quilt. For this pepper dish quilt, each corner of the quilt will get this same flower applique arrangement.
As I complete the applique shapes, I place them under the plastic, on top of the actual quilt, and this gives me accurate placement of each piece. The plastic will remain on the quilt until each shape has been placed where it belongs.
I have enjoyed working on this quilt again.......I hope to finish up the applique tomorrow........get all the pieces basted down with Roxanne's Baste It Glue........then I will be ready to head for the sewing machine. I plan to blind stitch with smoke invisible thread around all the applique shapes. I don't want the applique stitches to draw much attention to themselves. I plan to do a lot of free motion quilting on this piece, and I don't want the applique stitches to complete with my machine quilting work.

I have been obsessed with beauty/makeup since birth and a professional makeup artist for approximately 10 years (I started at 15...lol). In all of those years, the look that been requested most by a client sitting in "the chair" or even just a friend or family member getting ready for a special occasion has been the "smoky eye". I prefer the "winged eye" ala Sophia Loren but that's another blog. Although the smoky eye is the most popular/requested/coveted makeup look, it is also one of the most difficult to achieve for a non professional, that is until today. Over the years countless cosmetic brands have produced "smoky eye palettes" that promise easy application with even easier instructions. Ummm...they lied. However, I am happy to be able to bring all my fellow beauty addicts a smoky eye happy ending... I have found not 1 but 2 palettes that deliver what their predecessors promised. Benefit and Sephora both have developed the perfect smoky eye kits with...gasp...easy to follow instructions. What I am most delighted by is that each palette have different tones, Sephora's is better suited for people who look better in earth tones and Benefit looks much better on people who have blue undertones. If you wear earthier colors such as browns or greens you should purchase the Sephore palette, however if you are more a pink/pastel person, Benefit is better suited for you. I have purchased both and they been wholeheartedly been approved by Glamour Whore. Sephora currently has both in stock online.
Benefit "Smokin Eyes" ($38 US Dollars)
Contents:
9gm Eye Bright
Pink highlight shadow
Pewter base shadow
Deep charcoal shadow
Smokin' liner
Brow zings wax (shade: light)
Fluff shadow/hard angle brush
Sephora "Smoky Eyes Palette" ($36 US Dollars)
Contents:
Four 0.07 oz eyeshadow shades
Black eyeliner pencil
0.1 oz Gradual Volume Black Mascara
Double-sided brush/sponge-tip applicator

~Pimps and Pinups~
Book an appointment to get your hair done ASAP at Pimps and Pinups Salon. I would get my hair done there simply because of it's fabulous moniker...but the name is just the beginning. Pimps and Pinups aura and atmosphere is a delicious combo of cutting edge style and old Hollywood glamour. Elegant black walls, starlet worthy backstage dressing room type mirrors, and barber chairs with Rolls Royce like luxury are just a few of the qualities that will make this salon as successful in NYC as it is in London. The late night hours and complimentary cocktails don't hurt either...
