"Inside Woody Allen". "Dread & Superficiality: Woody Allen as Comic Strip"

Woody Allen's classic neurosis, Jewish identity, humorous life philosophy and complex relationships are embodied in the comic strip, "Inside Woody Allen". This book is a collection of the best of these comic strips, that were syndicated daily by King Features from 1976 to 1984, illustrated by Stuart Hample in collaboration with Woody Allen.
This compilation includes original art, and sketches, photographs, and development work by Allen, offering a rare glimpse into an aspect of his career that has long been overlooked.
Working closely with Allen, Hample has put together a smart and funny set of comics that shows 220 of the unique strips in full colour. This book is a gathering of tremendous talent, particularly the illustrations by Hample, who’s pacing and design act as a good example of how strips work. He doesn’t break ground like a Gary Larson or a Bill Watterson, but the strip doesn’t call for that type of innovation. Instead, it’s the subject matter and dialogue that feel ahead of their time.
Thoroughly recommended
