CHARLES GRODIN

Charles Grodin (born April 21, 1935) is a laconic under rated actor known most popularly for his comedy roles. He stole many a film such as Heaven Can Wait and The Lady in Red.


He was a student of Lee Strasburg, where he studied the method and this background may be why his comedic qualities are so refined.

He has appeared in a number of well known movies; Rosemary’s Baby, Catch 22, King Kong (1976), and lesser known more intimate films like The Couch Trip, Hearts and souls and The lonely Guy.

He has worked with some of the most popular actors of the eighties including Steve Martin, Warren Beatty, Gene Wilder, Robert Downey Jr, James Belushi, Ned Beatty, Alan Arkin, Chevvy Chase, Goldie Hawn and The Muppets.

His best movies are The Heartbreak kid, in which he falls for Cybil Shepherd on his honeymoon and pursues his obsession to the bitter end and the underrated Midnight Run with Robert De Nero. A wonderful subverted buddy style movie.

Charles Grodin is very much from the less is more school and his charm means that regardless of the quality of the movie (The Incredible Shrinking Woman and Ishtar spring to mind), you know if he’s in it that you are guaranteed some great scenes from him.
