Nancy's Art Cloth:

Round 1

Nancy painted and sun printed w/Setacolors

Round 2

I used tree branches as a resist and spray painted w/Tulip Fabric Paint

Round 3

Kathi created leaf stamps and put leaves on the branches

Round 4

Virginia made a moon w/Lumiere

Nancy's Art Cloth is finished

Nancy Wiped & Swiped over tape to create the plaid pattern

I used a big jar lid and stamped circles w/textile paint

Kathi created a silk screen and added green lines

My Art Cloth (LuAnn):

I painted white fabric w/Setacolors,

then placed objects on top and sun printed the cloth...

This is the result of the sun printing:

Kathi made a stamp w/string and stamped black on the edges

Virginia over-painted w/Neocolor II and Setacolors

Nancy placed an object on the cloth as a resist

and sprayed alcohol ink over the top.

My cloth is finished.

There you have it....the BIG Reveal.

We are planning another Art Cloth Round Robin in the fall

w/Dyed fabrics.

Art Cloth.........Resist Technique

We are in the 4th and final round of the exchange

I thought you might enjoy

watching the progress of one of the art cloths

This is Kathi's Art Cloth

Round 1

Sun printing

Virginia has over-painted and sun printed the cloth

Nancy has stamped it with textile paint

I received Kathi's art cloth for the 4th Round:

I consider Round 4 like frosting the cake...

Everyone else has come before me to gather the ingredients,

mix them up, bake them and prepare them for frosting.

I decided to go for a layered look...

This is the fourth and FINAL round...

so I don't need to leave room for anyone else.

So I covered the cloth with texture Kathi will love.

I decided to use " Resist " as my technique

for this surface design...

I used sequin waste, rug gripper, plastic mesh

and dry wall tape.

I placed these objects on the fabric, then sponged textile paint over them.

The objects created a resist,

so when I removed them, I was left with the patterns and textures.

When I revealed the cloth to Kathi she said,

"That looks like a Rayna Gilman."

The Flowering Cherry Trees

in the front yard remind me of popcorn...

They started popping out tiny white blossoms last week.

Kathi's cloth was handed off to Virginia

Virginia painted back over the top of Kathi's cloth w/setacolor paints, scrunched it up and put it outside in the winter sun to sunprint...

This definitely enhanced the fabric

Now on to my Art Cloth:

White fabric painted with setacolor paints.

Fish netting, lace and crochet placed on top.

Then placed out into the sun to print...

The swirly paper was Kathi's inspiration

Kathi created these stamps:

She glued string to wooden blocks to create a hand made stamp

Kathi practiced on this piece of fabric to be sure the stamps worked well.

It was handed off to Nancy...

Nancy created a plaid design on it

This is Nancy's process:

She taped over the top of the fabric to create a mask

She used all sizes of tape to keep it interesting

Then she stenciled over the top w/Textile Paints

Now onto Nancy's Art Cloth:

Branches & Sprayed w/Tulip Textile Paint

Here is my process for Round 2 on Nancy's cloth:

The darker lines in Nancy's cloth made me think of trees...

So I went down to the river to look at the trees and brought back a few branches

I placed the branches on top of the fabric

I really liked this look...

I painted over the top of the entire piece with Tulip Textile Spray Paints

When I removed the branches it created this lovely surface design
