"The pen is mightier than the sword" -Edward Bulwer-Lytton
A pinkish-coral pen scented with Michael Kors "Very Hollywood" fragrance ($25) is about as "Hollywood" as one can get... I love this concept!! A scented pen!! So much better than that Bic blue ink aroma!! Michael Kors newest fragrance features a few goodies besides the delicious smelling perfume itself. Besides the pen there's also a solid perfume cocktail ring, and a gift set which will include fragrance and unscented false eyelashes, a miniature Very Hollywood bottle choker and gold clutch.
The "very Hollywood" line launches in September 09 and can be purchased via http://www.michaelkors.com/
The glass bottle is made to resemble flashbulbs and the outer packaging is a rich coral with a gold border, the Very Hollywood label features a font inspired by the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The Sun's Out For James Maddock
“The sun hasn’t set on this boy yet”
-- Nils Lofgren
There’s a million ways to say you’re not giving up and James Maddock has found a dozen of them on his decade in the making return, Sunrise on Avenue C.
His 1999 debut, Songs From Stamford Hill, under the nom de stage of Wood, was an americana-centric collection of lovelorn pop, highlighted by the Triple A hit “Stay You”, which was featured in several TV shows and landed on the first Dawson’s Creek compilation. It appeared that Maddock was headed for stardom, and then life happened. A follow-up to Stamford Hill was recorded and not released, he got married and divorced, moved to New York City and was ultimately dropped by his record label, Columbia Records. End of story, right? No sir.
James Maddock is back with an exquisitely crafted song cycle of ruminations on the promise of love and the creative spark, the courtship of his muse (“I may not say much but I mean every word”) and the uncertainty that plagues the lover and the writer. Alternately buoyant and melancholy, Sunrise on Avenue C is a cozy marriage of Ben Folds cracked piano ballads and Bruce Springsteen’s melodic romanticism.
The album opens with “Chance”, a bouncy call-to-arms that announces he’s back in the game (“I’ve got nothing, with you I’m something, I think you’d call it a chance”), followed by a trio of declarative love songs that shows budding commitment to women, words and The City (“Ain’t you gotta kiss for me / the Village is a symphony / where else would you want to be”). Next up is song of the summer contender “When The Suns Out”, whose infectious chorus has been stuck in my head for weeks, and captures the maddeningly fleeting elation of a perfect day.
Maddock’s gift here is making the everyday memorable, catching all aspects of a relationship in deftly worded short stories, and delivering good, old fashioned songs – well produced (the judicious use of strings sweetens a few tracks), loaded with strong melodies and a real beginning and an open-ended ending in album closer “Together”. Will this relationship work? No one’s saying, but it feels like there’s more to the story because the sun hasn’t set on this boy yet.
James Maddock will be appearing Wednesday, September 9th, at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia for a cd release party.
Sunrise on Avenue C is out now on Ascend Records and available from amazon.com, cdbaby, itunes and Main Street Music in Manayunk (215-487-7732).

~Kim Dash For YRB Magazine September 09~

"I am loving the results... I really love the transformation and the clothes were amazing!!! This has got to be one of the most unique shoots I've ever done! Not sure I'll ever go for a permanent short cut, but it definitely works for this shoot." -Kim Kardashian on her spread (including cover) for YRB magazine.
Kim Kardashian is quickly becoming one of my favorite magazine darlings. Who knew she was fearless when it came to changing up her look and taking risks? Those risks continue to pay off. The cover and spread for YRB's September 09 issue are PHENOMENAL. Shot by the talented Mike Ruiz, styled by Darius baptist (who did an exceptional job), makeup was done by the always awe-inspiring Troy Jensen . The result is a dramatic, divine, glamorous layout for YRB.
Now, Mz. Dash hasn't limited taking risks to just magazine photo shoots. Kim has gone BLONDE!! I personally love it, I'm not saying I like it better than her natural shade, I'm just saying that I like this look also. They are two completely different looks and I think she looks fabulous in both shades, I will however say that I feel the lighter shade should probably end with the summer season since it's such a "summer look"... Have a look and tell me what you think.

Rihanna for Vogue Italia Supplement "Extreme Couture"

“Beauty awakens the soul to act.” -Dante Alighieri quotes (Italian Author and Poet.1265-1321)
Rihanna posed for famed photographer Steven Klein resulting in an amazing spread for Vogue Italia's fashion supplement for the mag's September 09 issue... The photo spread aptly named "Extreme Couture" is rumored to be the reason RiRi shaved her head. If true, her efforts paid off as the photos are FIERCE. This maybe one of the best layouts I have ever seen...

Birthday Surprise
Our son came home on his birthday to show us his new puppy.
We went outside to take a few pictures and it began to snow so beautifully.
The puppy had snowflakes all over his head.
I had a difficult time printing this image onto fabric.
I ended up with 4 prints, and didn't want to waste them.
I chose the best for the center, then cut the rest up and added them to create a fractured piece.

I Do The Limit
This is my husband's grandmother.
Her son-in-law would tease her about driving too slow.
She would simply reply, "I Do The Limit".
Grandmother turns 90 this year.

The Guardian
As soon as I snapped the camera, I just knew this would become a quilted textile some day. I love when that happens.
This is Tony..... with Kent & Celia in the background.
His main job was to guard their car. If he was in the car, nobody got near it!
I chose to keep with the botanical elements and quilted wheat in the border and grasses in the center.
I plan to include these photo transfer journal quilts in the exhibit later this month.
It was good to get home from our trip early enough to have time to get these completed for the show.

This was a great place to stop, Wheat Montana.
A family owned wheat farm. They grow and mill the wheat.
They also have a bakery and sandwich shop on the farm.
