"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." -Albert Schweitzer

I do not believe in "New Year Resolutions", I never keep them. I think it's the pressure and my natural defiance. If someone tells me I can't do something, it's forbidden...I automatically want to do it...badly. However, I do believe in "New Year Good Intentions". I intend to work less and enjoy life more in 2010. No pressure.

As for the past year...I worked way too much. I got so caught up in making a living, I forgot to have a life. But I have to admit, sometimes I just really enjoy working. Most of the time actually. Yesterday (new Year's Eve) was one of those times. I had a client at 6:15. A darling blue-eyed fresh faced blond named Ashley looking for a glam New Year's Eve look.

I arrived at her apartment armed with a full makeup case, she answered the door armed with enthusiasm. She is just adorable!! I told her I was thinking "Twiggy" but sexy...like a "hybrid of Twiggy and Brigitte Bardot"...trendy, mod and sexy. She loved the idea. She was so upbeat, and more than a little hyper... running around in boxer shorts, extremely furry Uggs and topless. LOL... It didn't faze me, I've seen more breasts than Hugh Hefner. Occupational hazard.

First I helped her pick out an outfit. After that was done we moved on to hair. She has great hair. I straightened it, then proceeded to add height and volume at the crown, some body to the ends and left the front straight. She added a Camellia headband at the last minute...so darling. Loved it.

Time for the makeup...

1) Prepped her skin with
MAC Prep and Prime

2) Started with the eyes. I applied light concealer under the eye and applied
Urban Decay Shadow Primer Potion to the lid.

3) I patted the lightest shade of the
POP Smokey Eye Goddess Clutch palette all over the lid. Origins Glistening Granite ( a GORGEOUS silvery/blue-ish green-ish hue) just ABOVE the crease, on the bone above the crease and just under the brow. I blended it out in a windshield wiper motion with a fluffy brush. MAC's fluidline cream liner in Blacktrack came next, used to create a dramatic wing and line the "tightline" (inner eye... under the top lashes). I went over the liner in a dry glittery eyeshadow and blended the stark lines out a little bit. A few coats of L'oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara and the eyes were done. And GORGEOUS.

4)
Maybelline Liquid Dream Mousse foundation was applied with a foundation brush spareingly because her is skin is beautiful and I didn't want to cover it up. A peachy-pink blush was applied to the apples of her cheeks. I used a discontinued product but Nars Orgasm would be perfect. Revlon's new Photo Ready Powder (great product!) locked in the look.

5) A couple of coats of
MAC's Lipglaze lipstick in Hue and she was ready to ring in the New Year beautifully...

The result? Picture perfect...

By the time I was done and ready to be on my way it was about 8:30 and I realized I had almost worked through New Year's Eve. But I didn't mind...it definitely beats digging ditches. There are worse ways to make a living and I love my job. However, I do INTEND to TRY to slow it down...
