Wallpaper Journal Quilt

This is why I have not posted in over a week...

My flowerbeds are being destroyed by an airborne virus....known as "Fire"

It destroyed over 200 tulip bulbs in the last 2 weeks.

The bacteria spread to over 100 iris plants...

It also is destroying over 50 Asian Lilies...

Yesterday I discovered the Rhodie buds look like they have been hit with a blow torch!

I do love gardening & flowers.......and I am trying to keep all of this in perspective.

After all, it is not a person or an animal.

I will keep my chin up and try to remain on the sunny side of life.

Working on the wallpaper quilt today lifted my spirits.

Tomorrow I am meeting with my Permission 2 Play Group....that always puts a smile on my face!

Woven Quilt........Class Sample

Today I am making a Woven Quilt for a class sample.

I chose some solid looking batiks and some fibers in different weights.

Let's see what happens...

This was Fun!

I tore all of the strips, no rotary cutting.

I used the same weaving technique I developed for my Cow Pony Quilt.

Canvas Stretcher Board

I decided to mount this woven quilt on a stretcher board.

This will help support the weight of the piece.

Installing a picture hook on the back of the canvas

This is my Thread Shed Toolbox........it holds very different tools than my regular tool box in the house!

I stitched the quilt through the canvas to hold it in place.

This also gives me the option of removing the quilt from the canvas if I need to.

Beads sewn on by hand

Beads strung on to the fibers hanging at the bottom.

This project was free spirited for me........I am a recovering Perfectionist........and ripping fabric with stray threads dangling here and there is not my norm.........but I enjoyed every minute of it.........thus the name.........Weaving My Dreams.

Foil Quilts......Finishing Up

Finishing up a few quilts for upcoming exhibits:

After Midnight

This was a class sample for a Foiling Class last Fall.

I didn't have any more of that red fabric in the center, so I found something close enough and put it around the edge for binding.

Back side of After Midnight

I added triangles on the top corners before I added the binding.

A little dowel inserted under the triangles is perfect support when hung on the wall.

Golden Moment

Another class sample from the foil class.

I added a pink batik binding and really like how it draws out the pink fibers.

The gold satin border fabric was found at the thrift store.

If you look close you can see the shiny metal embellishments on it.

No, I didn't add them....the fabric came that way.

I made a split hanging sleeve on the back.

I slid a tiny dowel through it.

This should hang nicely when displayed and be supported all the way across the top of the quilt.

Moose Lodge Quilt

5pm....ready to leave the Thread Shed and call it a day.

Couching Foiled Fabric

I decided to add fibers on top of the quilting lines across the center of the foil fabric.

My favorite way to couch threads is using my free motion feet.

Above you can see the 3 different free motion or darning feet I use.

I started out with the darning foot that is a half circle shape.

This gives me perfect visibility when I am trying to follow a line on the quilt surface.

Stitch in place a few times to anchor the fiber down.

Then slowly top stitch along the fiber.

I do not zig zag as this compresses the fibers, and I want them to remain fuzzy.

When couching a very fuzzy fiber I use the big plastic darning foot.

It does not snag the fibers like the open toe foot sometimes does.

End your stitching line with several stitches in place to tack the fiber down good

This image displays fibers couched down, you can barely see the stitching.

On the right side I have 2 more quilting lines to couch over yet.

This is what the original piece looked like after it was foiled...

This is the completed piece...ready to bind.

Painted Fusible, Shave Cream Printing, Photo Transfer

Sage Journal Quilt

This piece of green painted fusible web was given to me by Nancy Bryant

I missed her Painted Fusible class a few months ago.

The Painted Fusible is in the center of the quilt.

The fusible is a beautiful sage color of green which inspired me to use this botanical fabric print to enhance the fusible web.

Leaf Applique Close-Up view

The painted fusible created such an interesting and textured background behind the applique leaves.

I plan to try this technique again.

Shave Cream Printing

I am taking this piece with me to a class in Idaho next week.

I plan to demonstrate Shave Cream Monoprinting.

I just love it when I find the perfect border fabric right in my own fabric cupboard here at home.

Under The Sea

Shave Cream Printing

Another class sample for the Idaho workshop next week.

This is a difficult piece to photograph. It is too dark with no flash, and all washed out with a flash. I struggled with this, and this photo doesn't do this piece justice.

The green border is not that dark.

Under The Sea

Couched fibers over the top of the shaving cream print in the center.

I used invisible thread and the darning foot on the sewing machine.

No zig zag stitching, just straight sewing, free motion stitching, the fibers are not squished down flat......I am happy with this piece.

PEACE

This is the very last piece I completed for my show on September 15th.

It is a photo transfer quilt of images of my son.

I used a thumbtack and tape to make the circles.

The circles are the only quilting on this piece.

This is another piece that was very difficult to photograph.

I think I need to take a photography class to learn more about my camera.

What a great find when I ran across the yellow hand fabric.

It is located on the far right edge of the quilt

It is just too perfect with this image of the peace fingers!

Pink Hydrangea

This hydrangea bush grows just outside the Thread Shed entrance.

The nights are cool and the grape leaves are turning red and purple.

Fall is on its way

Laundry on the Line

Our days are still in the 80's so I can keep hanging the laundry on the line.
