Cheesecloth may be my favorite resist on painted fabrics !

Plastic Snowflakes on top of blue painted fabric...

I created a saturated blue paint to get a good print

Blue Lace over the top of black painted fabric...

I use a lot of black & white fabrics.

This will be a great addition to the stash!

Black Paint covered with plastic cling wrap...

The cling wrap creates a wonderful texture.

This could be used as rocks or asphalt in a landscape quilt.

It also makes a great background for applique work, which I love.

I can also stencil on it with opaque paints...lots of options.

These are a few botanicals I found up in the timber last week:

Ferns, Sheep Sour, Queen Anne's Lace & Alder Leaves

I pressed them in a phone book to preserve them for a few days.

They were perfect for sun dyeing...

They are firmly pinned down to the foam core board to keep them flat against the painted fabric to encourage better printing.

This sun print is my favorite of the day...

Paint Brushes & Trays clean and drying in the kitchen window

Now that the clean-up is all done...

I can heat-set the painted fabrics and begin planning a few new textile projects with them.......yummy !

Sun Dyeing Results...

Never waste a sunny day in Western Oregon !

I pulled out the sun dyeing supplies...

Setacolor Textile Paints and lots of brushes...

Let's see where the day takes us...

Painted Fabrics drying in the sunshine...

This is a rug making grid on top of the wet paint...

This is what the fabric looks like after it has dried in the sunshine

The paints are sensitive to the sun.

The grid acted as a resist.

Fiddlehead Ferns on wet painted fabric...

Straight pins holding the ferns down firmly in place

The BIG Reveal...

The ferns left a very crisp and clear image

Plastic Cling Wrap on top of wet paint in the sunshine

The BIG Reveal...

Glad I tried the plastic....makes a great texture!

A curtain panel on top of the painted fabric...

Makes a great textured grid-like pattern

Queen Anne's Lace & Tansy Leaves

This one makes a rather 3-D image

Unpacking......Continues

I am still unpacking from our trip...

Below is a demo piece I created in a rust dyeing class in Idaho

I demonstrated soaking the fabric in vinegar, how to wrap up the rusty object, then packed this up in a plastic bag...

It brewed in the heat in the back of the pick up for nearly a week while we traveled.

Absolutely perfect conditions for rust dyeing!

I unwrapped the bundle, removed the rusty metal, then soaked it in baking soda for a few hours...

It is now washed, dried and pressed...

I will add this to my rust dyed fabric collection!

One of the pit falls of traveling with your teaching equipment:

Things can really take a beating, packing and unpacking.

I travel with 4 of these thread boxes that I use in my machine quilting demos.

This box just didn't quite do the job keeping the threads in order...

Lucky for me I had a birthday recently...

My Anny Donna surprised me with new thread boxes:

When I arrived in Idaho, she had these boxes waiting for me!

The dividers hold the spools in place beautifully.

She found these in the fishing department of her local hardware store.

Gel Glue Resist

The paint is now cured and I can throw this piece in the washing machine to remove the glue...

I created this as a demo in Idaho in a Sun Dyeing Class

I really like it, but I think I have made more work for myself...

I do believe I will have to finish this piece at some point.

Paint Testing Cloth

When painting fabric, I test the colors of paint on a cloth.

This is the result of testing setacolor paints.

I see Monet's Flower Garden in this cloth...
