WARNING: We do not vouch for the truth of any of the rumors that we repeat in this space. Texas Gov. Rick Perry insists he’s not running for president. And we believe him. But we feel you are entitled to hear what many of his conservative friends and supporters are saying.
Conservative radio talk show host and best-selling author Laura Ingraham got tongues wagging in Texas today when she declared that Rick Perry is running for president in 2012.
Ingraham was doing an interview with conservative Indiana congressman Mike Pence when she let loose with her Perry “scoop.”
According to the conservative blog Ace of Spades HQ, Ingraham revealed that “she knows someone very connected to Perry, and that guy says he’s in.”
OK, no named sources here. And this is third hand gossip, at best. But what the hay?
Ingraham has been a big Perry fan for a long time. He appeared on her show to bash President Obama, federal immigration policy, perceived federal “Texas-bashing” and the federal response to Texas wildfires. (She called them “wildflowers.” He called David Hartley, the Texan killed on Falcon Lake, “Steven” Hartley.)
In the exchange, Perry said President Obama is “more interested in trying out for Saturday Night Live” by telling jokes about the border than he is in solving problems.
“Americans don’t want a stand-up comic for president of the United States,” Perry told Ingraham. “They want a serious policy individual.”
And that serious policy individual would be who, governor?
Check out the conversation below:
The Ingraham rumor came a day after Perry set off a Texas Twitter-fest with a slip of the tongue during a TV interview with Fox News host Greta Van Susteren. Perry told the Fox personality, “You know, I hope the president of the United States would hear from the president of — or, excuse me, the governor of the second largest state in our nation.”
