Snow Day.....2011

Remember as a child when you woke up in the morning
to find out school had been cancelled...

because of a SNOW DAY !

Welcome to My World:

7 am I stepped out the back door
and this is what I saw...

Little Snow Cakes on top of the fence posts!

Across the river the Cow Barns are covered in Snow

Gunnr was more than happy to join me outdoors:

He is staring over at the barn...

Gunnr is letting me know that he sees...

a yearling calf taking shelter in one of the horse stalls

This little yellow building is...
The happiest place on earth...
The Thread Shed

All of my quilted textiles are born in this building

Yes, I am a Jersey Girl Originally...
I have lived in Oregon for 30 years

Just outside the Thread Shed
Growing on the Arbor

These tiny little buds are braving the snow...

This is the corral fence just behind the Thread Shed.
The livestock are good company while I sew.

The corral fence makes a good perch for the birds.

Luckily these little apple trees
haven't bloomed yet...

This is pretty much the tour around the yard...
I am heading back in to make some breakfast...

Gunnr and Suzy are ready to go back inside too !

After breakfast we are moving cattle...

I will post more images of the cattle drive when we get back!

Seize The Moment

Snow photography is my favorite. When I wake up and the world is white, I quickly throw on my clothes and ask my husband to take me for a ride. The photo you see here was taken at the Westfork Barn where our cattle are fed in the winter.
Click on this photo to enlarge it and see it close up. I love the frosty tree limbs on the left side of the photo.

The white sheep against the snow is one of my favorites. These are North Country and Lincoln sheep. They knew my husband was there to feed them, so they came out of the barn to greet us........it made the perfect photo.

Do things when you are inspired to do them. Don't put them off until a more convenient time.........by then the snow may have melted and the opportunity is lost.
In quilting, use that fabric while you are still inspired to make something with it.
Your enthusiasm will eventually dwindle, and you will forget why you purchased that fabric. Make notes in a journal when you are inspired. You can take out the journal at a later date, see your notes, and that inspiration will come flooding back to you.
We need to cultivate our creativity, like a gardener tending to his flowerbed.

Dancer & Freckles in the Snow

Have you ever taken a photo, and right at the moment the shutter goes off, you know it will make a great quilt? This is one of those photos.
Dancer & Freckles were waiting at the fence early one snowy morning. They whinny at the first person out the door, hoping to get some cob and alfalfa.
I think this photo will find its way into a journal quilt eventually.

Snow Day in Oregon

January 2009
My home and family are the biggest influences on my quiltmaking.
If I don't have a rotary cutter in my hand, then I have a camera.
Many of my pictures inspire my quilts.

Now that I figured out how to post to this blog, I will do it again......soon.....before I forget how.

Thanks for checking out my new blog!
